In Jesus’ Name Charities is a collective compassionate and spiritual response to poverty in our community in which people may do small acts of kindness and sharing to comfort and help their neighbors in need. It operates an ongoing emergency food response, and verifies needs and coordinates a network of volunteers and donors to meet those needs. In Jesus Name was founded in 1981 when the Hoboken Clergy Coalition formed to respond to the various needs of the poor of Hoboken and is tax exempt as a church organization hosted by Our Lady of Grace Church.

IJN is an all volunteer staffed ministry. By designing the ministry with no staff salaries and little overhead costs donations go towards meeting the needs of the poor rather than the needs of the organization.

100 volunteer labor hours are needed each week to keep the 10,000 items stocked and displayed and distributed each month ready to meet the needs of the hundreds of households who visit the ministry quarterly.

Volunteers register for our volunteer labor bank. They interview with the director and express interests and talents and available time bands.  They are contacted as need arises .

 

Volunteers Tasks

​

  • Keep the resource banks organized and assist in the distribution.

  • Help with our storage unit and the pick up donations

  • Deliver to the infirm who are unable to come to the pantry.

  • Staff an event where families gather helping us serve food and supervise children’s activity centers

  • Update our databases and recipient activity and visits

  • Assist with other clerical maintenance

Arrangements to donate your items can be made by email or phone. Appointments are scheduled every other day, one week day evening, and one week end day.  Since the times available vary according to the needs of the ministry please confirm a time and that there is need and space for your items.

When we collect money we want it to have a specific purpose known to the donor

Since sharing as an act of love and compassion is a priority we appreciate when monetary gifts are designated to targeted needs so the gift matches the heart and intent of a donor Over head is low since the use of our premises is donated by Our Lady of Grace and the founding director is an unsalaried professional accepting a small stipend for very basic personal needs.in order to serve the poor as part of a Franciscan vocation. To help keep the ministry available to the poor we accept pre-designated monetary gifts underwriting minivan, business supplies, storage unit internet phone or stipend support Donors may also offer charitable aid to a verified need of an individual by asking to join our Anonymous Angel Network.
